Hallway flooring
The hallway is the busiest route through the house, and it takes the grit and wet from outside. A thicker wear layer pays off here.

The short answer
The best flooring for hallways
Choose GF Glue Down 0.55 or GF Glue Down 0.7. They are waterproof, and their thicker wear layers stand up to the traffic a hallway takes. GF Click SPC is the quicker-fit alternative.
For a period home, real oak GF Herringbone is a classic hallway floor. Put entrance mats at every outside door, whichever floor you choose.

What to think about
Choosing a hallway floor
Wear
A hallway takes more foot traffic than any other room. Choose a 0.55mm or 0.7mm wear layer.
Grit
Grit is what scratches floors. Put entrance mats at every outside door and sweep or vacuum regularly.
Wet from outside
GF vinyl is waterproof. Real oak is water-resistant, so use barrier mats inside and outside the door and wipe up wet promptly.
Into other rooms
Glue-down LVT can run from the hallway into other rooms without a break. GF Click SPC needs an expansion joint at doorways, covered with a threshold.
Mats and runners
Use mats and runners without a rubber or latex backing, which can permanently discolour vinyl.
Questions
Hallway flooring, answered
What is the best flooring for a hallway?
A waterproof floor with a thick wear layer, because the hallway takes more foot traffic than any other room. GF Glue Down 0.55 and GF Glue Down 0.7 are ideal, and GF Click SPC is the quicker-fit alternative.
Which wear layer do I need for a hallway?
0.55mm or 0.7mm. The hallway is the busiest route through the house, so a thicker wear layer pays off.
Can the hallway floor run into the kitchen without a threshold?
With GF glue-down LVT, yes: one floor can run through several rooms without breaks. GF Click SPC needs an expansion joint at doorways, covered with a threshold or T-profile.
Can I have real oak in a hallway?
Yes. GF Engineered Wood suits hallways with sensible care. Use barrier mats at the door and wipe up wet promptly, as real oak is water-resistant rather than waterproof.
What doormat should I use on GF vinyl?
Any mat without a rubber or latex backing. Rubber and latex can permanently discolour vinyl floors.
