About Chelford Oak Herringbone

Chelford is a very pale blond oak with an almost raw look. The grain is quiet and mostly straight, with soft ray flecks and a scattering of tiny pin knots. Planks move gently between creamy and slightly warmer shades, which keeps it natural without looking patchy. Brushing adds a subtle texture, and the oiled finish leaves it matt.

It makes a natural base for Scandinavian and minimal interiors: grey sofas, light oak furniture, monstera and fig plants, white walls and large windows. It feels calm in bedrooms and living rooms, and kitchens are fine with sensible care.

The 90 x 300mm planks make a compact, traditional herringbone. The pale colour softens the busy pattern, so it works in smaller rooms and hallways as well as open-plan spaces.

A 3mm real oak top layer on a stable multi-layer base means it can be sanded and refinished later. It is Select grade, for fewer and smaller knots, and suits underfloor heating up to 27°C.

Frequently asked questions about Chelford Oak Herringbone

How many packs of Chelford Oak Herringbone do I need?

Each pack covers 1.512 m². Measure the floor area, add 15% for cutting, as patterned floors need more cuts than plank, then divide by 1.512 and round up. For a 15 m² room that is 12 packs.

Is Chelford Oak Herringbone waterproof?

No. It is real wood, so it is water-resistant rather than waterproof. Wipe up spills promptly. It works well in kitchens with sensible care, but for bathrooms and utility rooms choose GF Glue Down LVT or GF Click SPC.

Can Chelford Oak Herringbone go over underfloor heating?

Yes. It is suitable for underfloor heating, water or electric, up to a floor surface temperature of 27°C.

How is it fitted?

It can be fitted by gluing down or nailing, with a 10–12mm expansion gap at the walls. Herringbone is laid from the centre of the room and is glued or nailed, never floated. To keep the GF guarantee, follow the GF installation guide and use a competent professional fitter.

Can it be sanded?

Yes. The real oak top layer can be sanded and refinished. The thicker the top layer, the more times that can be done, so a 4mm or 6mm top layer gives you more life than 3mm.

What guarantee does it have?

It has a 25-year residential guarantee. To keep the GF guarantee, follow the GF installation guide and use a competent professional fitter.

Can I order a free sample?

Yes. You can order up to five free samples, and we aim to send them within 3 to 5 days, so you can see the colour in your own light before you buy.
