Room guide
Kitchen flooring
A kitchen floor has to cope with spills, dropped pans and constant foot traffic. GF waterproof vinyl is made for it, and real oak works too with sensible care.

The short answer
The best flooring for kitchens
For most kitchens, choose a waterproof GF vinyl floor with a 0.55mm or 0.7mm wear layer. GF Glue Down 0.55 and GF Glue Down 0.7 give a solid, seamless floor that can run under the table and on into the next room. GF Click SPC is the quicker fit, with the underlay built in.
If you want real wood, GF Engineered Wood works in a kitchen with sensible care. It is water-resistant rather than waterproof, so wipe up spills promptly.

What to think about
Choosing a kitchen floor
Water
GF Glue Down LVT and GF Click SPC are 100% waterproof. GF Engineered Wood is real oak, so it is water-resistant rather than waterproof: wipe up spills straight away.
Wear
The wear layer is the clear top layer that takes the everyday wear. For a busy family kitchen, choose 0.55mm or 0.7mm.
Kitchen units
Fit kitchen units, islands and other fixed furniture before the floor, never on top of it. This applies to every GF floor.
Underfloor heating
Every GF floor is suitable for underfloor heating, up to a floor surface temperature of 27°C.
Looking after it
Use felt pads on chair and table legs, and only non-rubber-backed mats and rugs. Never use a steam cleaner. The care guide has the details.
Questions
Kitchen flooring, answered
What is the best flooring for a kitchen?
A waterproof, hard-wearing floor. GF Glue Down 0.55 or GF Glue Down 0.7 give you a glued, seamless floor, and GF Click SPC is the quicker click fit. All three are 100% waterproof.
Is vinyl flooring waterproof?
Yes. GF Glue Down LVT, GF Click SPC and GF by AW are 100% waterproof vinyl floors, so they suit kitchens, bathrooms and hallways.
Can I have engineered wood in a kitchen?
Yes, with sensible care. GF Engineered Wood is real oak, so it is water-resistant rather than waterproof. Wipe up spills promptly.
Should the floor go down before or after the kitchen units?
Fit kitchen units, islands and other fixed furniture first, then fit the floor up to them. Never fit units on top of a GF floor.
Can you use a steam mop on vinyl flooring?
No. Steam can damage the surface and the adhesive. Sweep or vacuum regularly and mop as needed with a well-wrung damp mop and a pH-neutral cleaner made for vinyl.
Can GF go over underfloor heating in a kitchen?
Yes. Every GF range is suitable for underfloor heating, up to a floor surface temperature of 27°C.
