What to know
Choosing herringbone LVT
Plank size
GF herringbone comes in five plank sizes. The smallest, 76 x 457mm and 114 x 457mm, make a fine, detailed pattern that suits hallways and smaller rooms. The 115 x 460mm and 118 x 590mm planks are the classic middle ground, and the 150 x 750mm planks make a bolder pattern for large, open-plan spaces.
Wear layer
The wear layer is the clear top layer that takes the knocks. GF Glue Down 0.3 (0.3mm) suits bedrooms and quieter rooms. GF Glue Down 0.55 and GF by AW (0.55mm) suit busy family homes, and GF Glue Down 0.7 (0.7mm) is the toughest, for the busiest rooms in the house.
Waterproof
Every design is 100% waterproof vinyl, so one herringbone floor can run through the kitchen, bathroom, utility room and hallway without a change of floor.
Fitting
Herringbone LVT is glued to a smooth, level, dry subfloor, usually after a smoothing compound, then rolled. There is no underlay. A herringbone floor takes longer to lay than plank, so use a competent professional fitter and follow the GF installation guide to keep the guarantee.
How much to order
Add 15% to your floor area for cutting, as patterned floors need more cuts than plank. The calculator on each design’s page works out the number of packs for you.
Questions
Herringbone LVT, answered
What is herringbone LVT?
Luxury vinyl planks laid in a zigzag herringbone pattern, with the end of each plank meeting the side of the next at a right angle. It gives the look of a traditional wood parquet floor, but it is waterproof and easier to look after.
What is the difference between herringbone and parquet?
Parquet is the general name for wood-look floors laid in a pattern. Herringbone is the most popular parquet pattern, and chevron and basketweave are others. The GF by AW Parquet designs are a small-scale herringbone. See every parquet design.
Is herringbone LVT waterproof?
Yes. Every GF Glue Down design is 100% waterproof, so it suits kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms and hallways.
Can herringbone LVT go over underfloor heating?
Yes. It is suitable for underfloor heating, water or electric, up to a floor surface temperature of 27°C.
Which plank size should I choose?
The smaller the plank, the more detailed the pattern. Small planks suit hallways and smaller rooms, and larger planks suit open-plan spaces. Order free samples in two sizes to compare them in your room.
How much extra should I order for herringbone?
Add 15% to the floor area for cutting. Each design’s page has a calculator that works out the packs for you, including the extra.
