Features and benefits

4mm real oak top layer

Every board has its own grain, and the floor can be sanded and refinished. The thicker top layer means this can be done more times.

Stable multi-layer base

Moves far less than solid wood with changes in temperature and humidity.

Underfloor heating

Suitable for water or electric systems, up to a floor surface temperature of 27°C.

Oiled finish

A natural look and feel, and it can be spot-repaired. Re-oil from time to time.

Select grade

Fewer, smaller knots for a cleaner look.

Glue down or nailed

We recommend a professional fitter.

25-year residential guarantee

When fitted by a competent professional following the GF installation guide.

About Frodsham Oak Herringbone

Smoking has given Frodsham a soft, earthy mix of mushroom, taupe and smoky brown, with paler biscuit planks scattered through. That range of tones is the point: the floor has a relaxed, lived-in look, like parquet that has been down for years. The grain is visible but gentle, with the odd small knot. Its oiled finish is matt and natural, with no shine at all.

It sits well in relaxed living rooms, dining rooms and studies, and in kitchen-diners with sensible care. Muted colours suit it best: stone, putty, warm grey and soft white walls, with boucle, linen, aged brass and dark-stained furniture. It also bridges cool and warm schemes nicely.

The 90 x 400mm planks give a medium-sized herringbone. With so much tonal variation, the pattern reads softly, so it adds character without overwhelming the room.

There is a 4mm real oak top layer, which means the floor can be sanded and re-oiled when it needs a refresh. The Select grade keeps knots small and few.

Frequently asked questions about Frodsham Oak Herringbone

How many packs of Frodsham Oak Herringbone do I need?

Each pack covers 1.872 m². Measure the floor area, add 15% for cutting, as patterned floors need more cuts than plank, then divide by 1.872 and round up. For a 15 m² room that is 10 packs.

Is Frodsham Oak Herringbone waterproof?

No. It is real wood, so it is water-resistant rather than waterproof. Wipe up spills promptly. It works well in kitchens with sensible care, but for bathrooms and utility rooms choose GF Glue Down LVT or GF Click SPC.

Can Frodsham Oak Herringbone go over underfloor heating?

Yes. It is suitable for underfloor heating, water or electric, up to a floor surface temperature of 27°C.

How is it fitted?

It can be fitted by gluing down or nailing, with a 10–12mm expansion gap at the walls. Herringbone is laid from the centre of the room and is glued or nailed, never floated. To keep the GF guarantee, follow the GF installation guide and use a competent professional fitter.

Can it be sanded?

Yes. The real oak top layer can be sanded and refinished. The thicker the top layer, the more times that can be done, so a 4mm or 6mm top layer gives you more life than 3mm.

What guarantee does it have?

It has a 25-year residential guarantee. To keep the GF guarantee, follow the GF installation guide and use a competent professional fitter.

Can I order a free sample?

Yes. You can order up to five free samples, and we aim to send them within 3 to 5 days, so you can see the colour in your own light before you buy.
