About Alderley Oak Herringbone
This is real oak left in its raw state, pale blond with a faint pink warmth. Silvery ray flecks shimmer across some planks, the grain is fine and fairly straight, and a few small knots appear here and there, as you would expect from a Select grade. Some pieces are a shade lighter, some a shade warmer, which gives the floor a natural, gently varied look. The surface is smooth and untreated.
Because it is supplied unfinished, you can oil or lacquer it after fitting to the tone you want, from a raw, near-white Scandinavian look to a deeper honey. It suits living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and hallways, and kitchens with sensible care.
At 80 x 300mm the planks are small, so the herringbone is close, busy and traditional. It is a good choice for period homes, smaller rooms and hallways, where a fine pattern adds detail without overwhelming the space.
The 3mm oak top layer sits on a stable multi-layer base and can be sanded and refinished in years to come. It suits underfloor heating up to a floor surface temperature of 27°C.

Frequently asked questions about Alderley Oak Herringbone
How many packs of Alderley Oak Herringbone do I need?
Each pack covers 0.96 m². Measure the floor area, add 15% for cutting, as patterned floors need more cuts than plank, then divide by 0.96 and round up. For a 15 m² room that is 18 packs.
Is Alderley Oak Herringbone waterproof?
No. It is real wood, so it is water-resistant rather than waterproof. Wipe up spills promptly. It works well in kitchens with sensible care, but for bathrooms and utility rooms choose GF Glue Down LVT or GF Click SPC.
Can Alderley Oak Herringbone go over underfloor heating?
Yes. It is suitable for underfloor heating, water or electric, up to a floor surface temperature of 27°C.
How is it fitted?
It can be fitted by gluing down or nailing, with a 10–12mm expansion gap at the walls. Herringbone is laid from the centre of the room and is glued or nailed, never floated. To keep the GF guarantee, follow the GF installation guide and use a competent professional fitter.
Can it be sanded?
Yes. The real oak top layer can be sanded and refinished. The thicker the top layer, the more times that can be done, so a 4mm or 6mm top layer gives you more life than 3mm.
What guarantee does it have?
It has a 25-year residential guarantee. To keep the GF guarantee, follow the GF installation guide and use a competent professional fitter.
Can I order a free sample?
Yes. You can order up to five free samples, and we aim to send them within 3 to 5 days, so you can see the colour in your own light before you buy.
