GF LVT and SPC care guide
How to clean, protect and look after GF glue-down LVT and GF Click SPC so it keeps looking its best.
Covers: GF Glue Down 0.3, 0.55 and 0.7, GF Click SPC and GF by AW
1. Protecting your floor
- Lift, don’t drag. Always lift heavy furniture when moving it. Dragging can scratch the surface and damage click joints.
- Felt pads on the legs of chairs, tables and other furniture.
- Castor cups under heavy items such as sofas and wardrobes, to spread the weight.
- Entrance mats at every outside door to trap grit and moisture. Use non-rubber-backed mats and rugs only. Rubber and latex backings can permanently discolour vinyl.
- Rugs or runners in hallways and other busy areas, again without rubber backing.
- Sunlight: use blinds or curtains to limit long spells of strong direct sunlight, which can cause fading and movement.
2. Everyday cleaning
- Sweep with a soft broom or vacuum regularly. Grit is what scratches floors. Use a hard-floor head without a beater bar.
- Mop as needed with a pH-neutral cleaner made for vinyl or LVT, using a well-wrung damp mop. Never flood the floor.
- Wipe up spills straight away. Never leave standing water or puddles.
- Do not use a steam cleaner. The heat and moisture can damage the surface and the adhesive.
- Check with your fitter before using any cleaning machine.
3. Removing marks
| Food and drink | A damp cloth with a pH-neutral cleaner |
|---|---|
| Grease or oil | A mild detergent, then rinse with clean water and dry |
| Scuffs and shoe marks | Buff with a damp cloth and a mild vinyl floor cleaner |
| Ink, paint or permanent marker | Rub gently with a little isopropyl alcohol on a soft cloth |
4. Never use
- Abrasive pads, scouring powders or steel wool
- Bleach, acetone, white spirit or other harsh chemicals
- Wax, polish or oil-based products
- Rubber- or latex-backed mats and rugs
5. After fitting
- Glue-down floors: keep off for 24 hours, and wait 72 hours before wet-mopping or moving heavy furniture back.
- Put entrance mats down straight away to keep grit off the new floor.
6. Room conditions
- Keep the room between 18°C and 27°C (ideally 20–22°C) and humidity between 35% and 60%.
- With underfloor heating, the floor temperature must never go above 27°C.
7. Pets and footwear
- Keep pets’ claws trimmed.
- Avoid stiletto heels and studded or spiked shoes, which can dent and scratch. Soft-soled indoor shoes are best.
